Pembrokeshire Greenways is an initiative to encourage local residents and
visitors, of all abilities, to access the countryside by sustainable modes
of transport through walking, cycling, bus and train travel.
'Greenways' was the first project of this kind to be developed in Wales and was
established in 1994 as a Countryside Council for Wales pilot project in South
Pembrokeshire, under the management of SPARC (now PLANED).
Due to the success of this pilot scheme the Greenways Project has now been extended
to cover the whole of Pembrokeshire, under the management of the Greenways Partnership.
Greenways partners include the following organisations:
This core partnership manages the scheme, while a wider 'Consultative Forum' of local businesses and organisations helps to identify and develop new projects.
As part of the programme a wider 'Consultative Forum' of local businesses
and interest groups are invited to become involved in the Greenways Project.
A regular Forum meeting is organised to generate new ideas to develop and enhance
the Greenways project.
Please contact the Greenways Officer for details on the next Forum: greenways@pembrokeshire.gov.uk
Several schemes have already been developed by Greenways, including the construction
of disabled access facilities, the opening and promotion of way-marked walking
and cycling routes with links to public transport, 'Guided Walks from Railway
Stations', and the development of the Pembrokeshire 'Puffin' Coastal bus services.
An example of the projects that Pembrokeshire Greenways have pursued in the last
10 years can be seen throughout this website.
